Juvenile and Low Risk Inmate Work Program

Juvenile and Low Risk Inmate Work Programs save taxpayer money in three ways. These work programs are early release programs. For every hour worked one to two hours may be reduced off the incarcerated sentence. This saves money by reducing incarceration time. By having the incarcerated:

·      Weeding the Parks, Creeks, and Lakeshore, like the Shoreline Park restoration.

·      Clearing brush from ravines and gullies and hazards.

·      Picking up debris and trash from the city and possible city beach at Lions Park.

·      Clearing weeds and debris from street medians and alleys in cities.

·      Packing sand bags to fortify flood control channels.

·      Landscaping and collecting trash and recyclables at the city-run green house and regional parks.

·      Painting over unsightly graffiti found on public property.

Saves money from having a professional landscaper do these duties.

Lastly, this helps prevent juveniles from destroying public property by acting as a deterrent. This work program will significantly reduce the cost of maintaining the parks and will largely reduce incarceration costs as well. The City Commissioners needs to petition the Erie County Court system to create such a Juvenile Program.
